The class WhatsApp group is gossiping about a child.
Here's what to post, or not post.
Parents' groups can turn a playground incident into a story about one child within hours. That child's parents are often in the group, reading every message.
Try saying
- I think this is something for the teacher to handle. Can we leave it with the school?
- If anyone's worried about their own child, it might be easier to message the class teacher directly.
Try not to say
'I heard he's always been a problem.' Adding to it, even mildly, makes the pile-on worse for a child who isn't there to answer.
When to get help
If the gossip involves a child's safety, abuse or threats, take it to the principal or school counsellor rather than the group.
